The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is an initiative of the Government of India which aims at providing affordable housing to the urban poor by the year 2022.
The government announced a grant of Rs 48,000 crores for affordable homes under PMAY to promote the government's main 'Housing for All' mission. The focus is to create 80 lakh homes under PMAY Urban and PMAY Gramin by 2022-23. Furthermore, under PMAY, 60,000 eligible beneficiaries will be identified across both rural and urban areas.
"This is an economic expansion budget with a particular emphasis on infra development, urban planning and design, which would be much requirements for expanding up for the future," officials said. The PMAY scheme's Rs 48,000-crore spending will benefit the affordable housing sector. The creation of five centers of excellence for urban design and planning is also a beneficial step that will contribute to the real estate sector's overall growth."
